Mzima Springs – Kenya

Mzima Springs, Tsavo West, Kenya

As we drove towards Mzima Springs in Tsavo West, Mount Kilimanjaro could be seen in the distance. Mzima Springs was the first time that we could get out of the safari van for the short walk to the springs that produce 95 million gallons of water a day. Hippopotamus abounded in the crystal clear water and a viewing tank was built so that visitors could watch the hippos. However, the hippos obviously did not like their privacy being invaded by tourists and now keep to the other side of the river. The tank with perspex sides is built below and above the waterline and numerous fish can be seen at eye-level. Photograph taken 14 June 2007.

Thanks, it was a tricky shot. In fact it is two photos. The first to expose for the sky and the second to expose for the fish. I tried numerous exposures initially but found it was impossible to get an overall exposure that was acceptable, hence the two photos joined later.
