Trincomalee – Sri Lanka

Today was the first time I have been on the east coast of Sri Lanka, as on my other visits it was a “no go” zone due the conflict. An amazing feature of Trincomalee is that there are about 100 wild Chital deer wandering around the town, relaxing in peoples’ gardens and in the parks. The beaches are superb and I have been fortunate enough to be staying at the new Jungle Beach Resort at Kuchchaveli, about 30 kilometres north of Trincomalee. This 48-room Boutique Hotel is an eco-wonder. Each chalet has been located so that no trees had to be cut, they are built around the trees. In fact only three trees were cut in the whole construction of the resort. Photograph taken 28th July 2012.
