Oaxaca – Mexico

Basilica de la Soledad, Oaxaca, Mexico

We drove from Mexico City to Oaxaca and while I was driving to our hotel I passed the Basilica de la Soledad. The Basilica has a 24-metre high Baroque façade, which resembles a folding alterpiece and is particularly noted for its heavily gilded interior. It was built between 1682 and 1690 to house the image of the Virgin of Solitude, Oaxaca’s patron saint.
