Cañón del Sumidero – Mexico

Cañón del Sumidero, Chipas, Mexico

On our way from Tehuantepec to San Cristóbal de las Casas we took a boat ride through the Cañón del Sumidero. Nearly a kilometre deep and 14 kilometres in length the canyon was carved by the Grijalva river over the course of millions of years. The two-hour journey gave us the opportunity to not only see the stunning scenery but crocodiles, unusual plants and a variety of birds as well.
