My first experience of visiting the Sahara Desert was amazing. After driving through the early morning in a small 1.3 litre car across the sands without getting stuck or lost, although we did have a local to guide us through the early morning darkness was an experience in itself. All the large 4-wheel drive vehicles left us in their dust but we soldiered on and reached our destination. It was very humbling to share hot tea with the Berber seated around the fire in the caravanseri. Watching the sun rise in very cold temperatures and then the desert journey began.
