Syracuse, Sicily, Italy

Syracuse was founded by the Greeks from Corinth in 733 BCE. Within a hundred years it had become one of Europe’s greatest cities. Today it is divided into three areas: a dull modern town; Ortiga, the city’s heart for 2,700 years and the Parco Archeologico, a large Greek, Roman and early Christian remains.
