Sunset, Vihanti, Finland
Mika our Finnish friend invited us to Vihanti to attend his brother’s wedding. Jarkko and Anne’s wedding was certainly different to weddings in Malaysia and New Zealand. Mika and Jarkko’s parents, Sinnika and Pertti certainly made us feel as one of the family and we had a peaceful and interesting visit to Vihanti. On our way back home we stopped at the lake to catch the evening sunset.

When I wander through forests and parks I always look at the nearby ground for patterns or unusual plants.

I got up early in the morning in the small village of Vihanti and wandered to the lake to watch the sun rise through the morning fog. It was very peaceful and the only sounds were the quacking of the ducks.

Vihanti jarvie, Finland
I got up at 5:00am to take some early morning photographs of the lake in the small village of Vihanti. Vihanti is 560 kilometres north of Helsinki so in early August I was hoping for a spectacular dawn. It was cold and foggy when I arrived at the lake, but bad weather never stops me making images. I selected the jetty and decided monochrome was the best choice for this photograph.

Sunset, Lake Vihanti

We were invited to a friend’s brother’s wedding in Finland. Vihanti, a small village in the north of Finland exposed us to the wonderful hospitality of the rural Finnish people. Close to our accommodation was the lake in Vihanti, even though it was summer, it was chilly early in the morning when I took this photograph of the fog covered lake as the sun appeared above the trees. Very serene and ethereal. We were made to feel at home and had wonderful experiences wandering through nearby forests picking an assortment of berries and mushrooms. This was the beginning of an enjoyable journey. Photograph taken 4th August 2005
